Senator Claire McCaskill, democrat from Missouri, contacted fraternities at the University of Missouri to ask why their leaders are lobbying for the Safe Campus Act. Students at MIZZO are in the news for protesting the racist policies and actions of President Timothy Wolfe, who recently resigned; the football team threatened to stop playing games unless the university dealt with Wolfe.
Tyler Kingkade reports "McCaskill sent them last week to the student leaders of Kappa Alpha Order, Sigma Nu and Alpha Tau Omega at the university. Those three fraternities, along with the North American Interfraternity Conference and the National Panhellenic Conference, have collectively spent $210,000 so far in 2015 lobbying in support of the Safe Campus Act."
McCaskill co-sponsored an alternative bill, the Campus Accountability and Safety Act, which she introduced in February 2015 with Kirsten Gillibrand, democrat from NY. For more information, see Gillibrand's website.
