"This play is not polemical, however. Nor is it an op ed piece or an editorial or an academic essay. If anything, it’s a kind of mirror reflecting back some unexamined cultural assumptions and biases in ways that may be uncomfortable for an audience. [...] If audience members leave a performance thinking and talking about this subject, I consider that a good thing."

The Big Ten Theatre Consortium commissioned Naomi Iizuka to write Good Kids, the first play of its New Play Initiative.
The New Play Initiative, established in 2010, is “a commission program to support female playwrights and provide female theatre students and professional actors with strong roles” (http://theatre.osu.edu/news/big-ten-theatre-consortium-supports-female-playwrights)
“Any Big Ten university can perform the play royalty-free for up to three years.” For more on the Big Ten, http://www.bigten.org/
Iizuka told Playscripts.com she wanted the play to "[deal] with subject matter that students at the Big Ten schools were dealing with in the present moment."
