In preparation for tomorrow's workshop, I came across this excellent resource from Notalone.gov. It summarizes models and impact of different bystander invention programs focusing on sexual assault.
The summary led me to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center's Bystander Intervention packet.
I want to empower you all to act by sharing this quote from their program:
"If we limit our interventions to a culminating 'event,' we miss multiple opportunities to do something or say something before someone is harmed. Instead, think of the 'event' as being on a continuum of behaviors that demand specific interventions at each stop" (10).
In other words, when you talk to your friend if they catcall or make an inappropriate comment, you are helping to reduce instances of sexual assault.
